Back in 2017, GoGoGrandparent announced a partnership with Keeping Us Safe, a national organization that helped older drivers with diminished driving skills make a smooth transition into “driving retirement.”
At the time, Keeping Us Safe was led by founder Matt Gurwell, a 24-year veteran of the Ohio Highway Patrol, who dedicated his post-retirement career to supporting older adults and their families through difficult driving decisions. The organization offered a workbook and in-person self-assessment session through its Beyond Driving with Dignity program, helping families navigate the question of when to stop driving safely and respectfully.
“Keeping Us Safe has been working for nearly a decade to help older adults and their families make safe driving decisions,” said GoGoGrandparent Co-Founder Justin Boogaard in 2017. “We’re honored to have been sought out as their national partner to ensure older adults who give up their keys aren’t giving up their lifestyle.”
At the time, Matt Gurwell, Founder of Keeping Us Safe, added:
“Each day, we help older adults and their families walk through the decision of when to stop driving. We were thrilled to work with GoGoGrandparent because the best-in-class mobility solution they provide can ease decision-making for so many of our clients. GoGoGrandparent removes a lot of the pain from the decision to no longer drive.”
A Look Back: What the Partnership Meant
The collaboration between GoGoGrandparent and Keeping Us Safe reflected a shared mission — empowering older adults to maintain independence, safety, and dignity as they age. For many seniors, giving up the keys can feel like losing freedom. This partnership helped bridge that emotional and practical gap by connecting families to safe transportation alternatives through GoGoGrandparent’s easy-to-use phone service.
When the partnership launched, GoGoGrandparent primarily offered GoGoRides — allowing members to call a live operator 24/7 to request a ride through Uber or Lyft, without needing a smartphone.
Today: Continuing the Mission Beyond 2021
Although Keeping Us Safe LLC officially closed on April 1, 2021, its Beyond Driving with Dignity program continues to live on through Senior Care Authority, where Matt Gurwell now serves as a consultant.
GoGoGrandparent continues to uphold the same mission that first brought these two organizations together: making it easier for older adults to age in place, stay connected, and live confidently — even without a car.
Today, GoGoGrandparent’s services have grown far beyond rides. Members can now enjoy:
- GoGoRides – 24/7 transportation via Uber and Lyft, accessible by phone.
- GoGoGroceries – Convenient grocery delivery through Instacart, no app required.
- GoGoGourmet – Warm meals delivered from local restaurants with DoorDash.
- GoGoPrescription – Reliable prescription pickup and medication delivery.
- GoGoHomeServices – Vetted professionals for chores, errands, and home maintenance.
- GoGoCare – Personalized care coordination for older adults and families.
- Grow with GoGo – Free virtual fitness classes, including Chair Yoga and Functional Fitness, helping seniors stay strong and mobile at home.
Through these services, GoGo continues to deliver safe, trusted support for those who’ve decided to retire from driving but aren’t ready to slow down.
